to sandy hook elementary school, carrying a virtual arsenal. investigators say the gunman had hundreds of rounds of ammo with him, perhaps enough to kill every student at sandy hook elementary. the connecticut governor says when the gunman heard police arriving, he used one of those bullets on himself. massacre ending as it began, with violence and blood. we have team fox coverage with rick leventhal on today's first funerals for the victims and updates on the survivors. first, the fox report's chief correspondent jonathan hunt live at the fire house in newtown, connecticut. where does the investigation stand tonight? >> it's moving slowly, john, and it's moving methodically. there are, of course, two main crime scenes. the school itself where those 20 children, ages six and seven, and the six female staff members were all gunned down, so horrifically on friday. that crime scene is likely to remain one, according to the cops, for months to come. it will not be reopened as a school until all of the investigative work is done there, if it reopens as a school at all. the second crime scen

say that two adults at sandy hook elementary are recovering from gunshot wounds. now we are -- we are now hearing would survivors who were shot. they are expected to be able to help in the investigation. the police saying today when it is appropriate, when the time is right, they will be able to question those two adults further. we don't know when those 600-some-odd kids will be able to return to school. those children from sandy hook elementary. we are told that school is closed indefinitely until they are able to reopen it. but it is a crime scene and there is a lot of processing. this morning, we were told that it could be months and months before that school opens. the same goes for the lanza familiar family home. here is the latest word from the connecticut state police this morning. >> we are holding both crime scenes, the school and secondary crime scene, indefinitely. we seized it under search sxwarpts we will hold those locations until we have completed our work and we feel it is appropriate to let them go. it is not to read anything into that, it is common practice to d

hockey. students in newtown, they are back in school today. but to be clear, not the students of sandy hook elementary school. students at other schools, they are seeing more police, more counselors on hand, just being in town the last couple of days there are a lot of police officers just sitting in the driveways of a lot of the schools here, clearly security being beefed up in this town right now. teachers union says classes will discuss the shooting in age appropriate manner. it is not clear yet, though, when sandy hook elementary school will resume class. but when they do, it will certainly be at a different school in the neighboring town of monroe. and i just got back from newtown this morning, and during dinner time last night, i was invited to spend some time with these two volunteer firefighters, they're with newtown hook and ladder and they went into emergency mode, of course, early last friday morning. they are rob mana and ray corbo. they served their community now for more than 20 years each. but the day they got that call, they say it was like nothing they had ever seen be
